Enter the PRM Party, new kid on the block

Caleb Amisi, MP for Saboti, launched his new political party, the People’s Renaissance Movement (PRM), on Tuesday, amid growing calls for political cooperation and opposition to President William Ruto. This marks another addition to the increasing number of political parties ahead of the general election scheduled for the second Tuesday of August 2027.

Amisi, a key figure in the rebellious wing that birthed the Linda Mwananchi movement, urged Linda Mwananchi leaders to join PRM if they face registration issues, referencing his own past association with the movement. However, concerns regarding the name Linda Mwananchi pose a complication to PRM's prospects in the election. The name is believed to be facing registration challenges, and it remains uncertain if Linda Mwananchi will join PRM or drop its previous identity.

Emeritus Chief Justice David Maraga, who supports PRM, encouraged collaboration between the new party and other like-minded political entities. Meanwhile, prominent political figures like Boniface Mwangi, Martha Karua, and Raphael Tuju addressed the launch, expressing their support, urging unity, and cautioning against the rise of another bad leadership.
