Du and Khalifa University 6G trials bolster UAE role in 'shaping the future'

UAE telecommunications firm du and Khalifa University have completed field trials for 6G technology, reinforcing the nation's role as an innovation hub. Outdoor coverage of up to 500 meters and peak downlink speeds nearing 1.5 gigabits per second were achieved during testing in Mohamed Bin Zayed City, Abu Dhabi. The report highlights the importance of upper-mid-band spectrum performance, stating that these trials are among the first in the region to validate this aspect.

Khalifa University's president, Ebrahim Al Hajri, emphasized that the partnership with du translates world-class research into practical solutions for shaping the future of intelligent telecommunications. Du CEO Fahad Al Hassawi praised the results, asserting that networks must evolve to better understand customer needs and drive economic growth.

The report explains how telecom providers can integrate artificial intelligence into their networks, enabling continuous learning, demand anticipation, resource optimization, and customer-centric service delivery. Industry experts predict that 6G networks will become widely adopted by 2030, with standard completion by 2028. The UAE has been actively working towards becoming a global leader in 6G development, recently allocating 600MHz and 6GHz bands to accelerate the technology's growth.
