Depay says Corinthians 'unacceptable' as contract ends

Memphis Depay has blasted Corinthians for "unacceptable behavior" and alleged breach of contract following the Brazilian team's refusal to renew his deal. The former Manchester United and Barcelona star joined Corinthians on a two-year agreement in 2024, but his tenure is set to end without a renewal after the club allegedly reneged on a previously agreed extension.

Depay took to social media to express his frustration, stating he was "forced to react strongly" to protect his interests. He acknowledged his respect for the club throughout the process but emphasized the need to address the "unacceptable" situation. Depay, who scored 20 goals in 79 appearances for Corinthians and contributed to their victories in the Copa do Brasil and Supercopa do Brasil, is currently seventh in Brazil's Serie A. The club, however, cited financial concerns as the reason for not extending his contract.

Corinthians president Osmar Stabile is set to hold a press conference in the coming days to elaborate on the decision.
