Depay accuses Corinthians of breaking contract renewal agreement

Memphis Depay, the former Manchester United forward, has accused Brazilian club Corinthians of breaching an agreement to extend his contract. Depay, who joined Corinthians in 2024, claims the club initially agreed to a two-year deal before reversing its decision, citing financial concerns. Depay took to social media to express his disappointment, stating, "Very disappointed to read that Corinthians decided not to honour our agreement in place to extend my contract for 2 more years."

He further accused unnamed individuals of breaching the agreement, saying, "I didn’t want this situation and always respected the club throughout the process, but now I am forced to react strongly in order to preserve my interests." Depay, 32, warned of a potential public statement in the coming days, adding, "In the upcoming days I will speak publicly but rest assured that I will not leave this unacceptable behaviour unsanctioned."

Corinthians announced they would not renew Depay's contract, citing financial difficulties that would prevent them from taking on another significant commitment. The club thanked Depay for his contributions during his two-year tenure, noting he scored 20 goals in 79 appearances and helped the team win two major trophies. Depay's manager expressed frustration over the situation, stating that he acted in his client's best interests to protect his career prospects.
