Depay accuses Corinthians of breaking contract renewal agreement

Former Manchester United player Memphis Depay has accused Brazilian club Corinthians of breaking a contract renewal agreement after the club declined to extend his deal. Depay, who joined the team in 2024, claims a two-year extension had already been approved by the club's president and key departments before the decision was reversed.

The Dutch international expressed disappointment on social media, stating, "Very disappointed to read that Corinthians decided not to honour our agreement in place to extend my contract for 2 more years." Depay emphasized that the renewal had been explicitly approved by the club's leadership, accusing unnamed individuals of breaching the agreement.

The 32-year-old warned he would speak publicly about the dispute in the coming days, vowing not to leave the situation unsanctioned. Corinthians announced it would not renew Depay's contract due to financial concerns, stating the decision would not compromise the club's sustainability. The club thanked Depay for his contributions during his two-year tenure, noting he scored 20 goals in 79 appearances, including titles in the Copa do Brasil (2025) and Supercopa do Brasil (2026).

Corinthians president Osmar Stabile will address the decision in a press conference soon. The dispute raises concerns about the end of their relationship, with Depay indicating he will pursue the matter to protect his interests.
