Coyote vs. Acme Is a True Triumph for the Underdog (or Eatius Birdius): Review

Coyote vs. Acme is a lighthearted yet heartfelt comedy that successfully navigates the melodrama surrounding its production. The hybrid live-action/animated adventure, starring Will Forte, John Cena, and classic Looney Tunes characters, faced shelving by Warner Bros. Discovery due to tax break purposes. However, it was eventually brought to life with the help of Ketchup Entertainment, showcasing the determination of the little guy and the importance of never giving up.

Directed by Dave Green, the movie delivers a courtroom tale akin to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, focusing on Wile E. Coyote's struggle against Acme products and his decision to sue them. Serving as the lawyer for this lawsuit is Kevin Avery, portrayed by Forte, a personal injury attorney who has settled cases for a small fee, leaving the coyote frustrated with his laziness and burnout.

To attract attention to his case, Wile E. teams up with Kevin's lawyer, Buddy Crane, played by Cena, and the public. The movie pays tribute to decades of animated history, incorporating numerous Looney Tunes characters in unexpected ways. The live-action/animated transition is grounded through practical elements, while the music features a needle drop of DJ Shadow/Run the Jewels' "Nobody Speak," with its lyrics being bleeped or meeped.

The film's praise for maintaining the audience's sympathy for the Coyote is evident in its successful portrayal of Wile E. Coyote's perseverance despite his numerous failures. Coyote vs. Acme will be released in theaters on August 28th, 2026.
