Court of Appeal to rule on AG’s stay application in Sedina Tamakloe’s case today

The Court of Appeal in Ghana is scheduled to announce its decision today, Wednesday, August 12, regarding the Attorney-General's request to suspend the implementation of its previous ruling, which acquitted and discharged former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre CEO, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu. Tamakloe-Attionu was previously convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court in 2024 and given a ten-year prison sentence for various offenses, including causing financial losses to the state.

The Court of Appeal subsequently overturned the conviction, leading to her acquittal and discharge. The Attorney-General has now filed an application for a stay of execution of the Court of Appeal's decision while the State continues its appeal. The State contends that permitting the acquittal to become effective immediately could enable Tamakloe-Attionu to depart from Ghana and potentially undermine its appeal.

Consequently, the Attorney-General is requesting the Court of Appeal to maintain the status quo until the State's appeal is resolved. The outcome of today's ruling will determine whether the acquittal and discharge will take immediate effect or remain suspended pending the result of the State's appeal.
