Cosmin Olaroiu's Al Jazira humbled by Al Ittihad in AFC Champions League Elite play-off

Cosmin Olaroiu made his debut as Al Jazira manager, but his team suffered a significant defeat against Al Ittihad in the AFC Champions League Elite play-off. Al Ittihad emerged victorious with a 4-1 scoreline, securing their spot in the Elite round. Steven Bergwijn was the standout performer for Ittihad, scoring two goals, while Houssem Aouar and Marwan Al Sahafi added the remaining goals.

Simon Banza provided a consolation goal for Jazira. The UAE club started strongly at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, but they were quickly behind on 12 minutes when Dutch striker Bergwijn capitalized on a loose ball following a Moussa Diaby cross, shooting past goalkeeper Ali Khaseif. Jazira's long-range effort by Milos Sesar missed the target on 18 minutes, and he failed to find the net again later in the game.

Ittihad took the lead twice in the first half, with Bergwijn converting a Diaby through ball in the 15th minute and Aouar finishing a Jan-Carlo Simic header in the 53rd minute. In the second half, Al Sahafi scored from a Youssef En-Nesyri cutback in the 69th minute, and Banza netted the consolation goal for Jazira with ten minutes remaining.

Olaroiu, reflecting on the result, acknowledged Ittihad's victory as well-deserved and urged his team to learn from the experience. The new coach emphasized the importance of humility, realistic understanding of their capabilities, and the need to give their best in future matches.
