Cops rescue wanted S’pore man kidnapped in Johor

The Singaporean police rescued a wanted man who had been kidnapped in Johor, Malaysia, after he sought refuge in the country illegally. Six Malaysian suspects, who had criminal records and tested positive for methamphetamine, were remanded for 10 days under the Immigration Act. The victim, who had been in Malaysia since May, was initially asked for help but was instead kidnapped by the group.

They demanded a ransom of S$80,000, initially rejecting S$80,000 and eventually accepting S$25,000. Of this, S$5,000 was paid online, with the remaining S$20,000 due at a local supermarket. Police arrested a 40-year-old suspect at the supermarket, rescuing the victim and his girlfriend, who sustained injuries to both thighs, likely caused by a sharp weapon.

A further five suspects, aged 32 to 46, were also detained in Skudai. The suspects, all Malaysians, had criminal records and officers seized S$12,000 in cash, a gold chain, a luxury watch, a car, and a parang. The victim and the girlfriend were both remanded for immigration violations, with the victim's detention lasting 14 days and his girlfriend's for four days.
