CodeRabbit bags $143M to help companies get a grip on the explosion of AI-generated code

CodeRabbit, a company that provides an AI-enabled tool for reviewing code generated by artificial intelligence, has raised $143 million in its latest funding round. The funds will be used to launch a new feature called Agentic Change Management, which aims to help companies manage the rapidly increasing amount of code generated by both humans and AI agents.

Led by Atomico and Smash Capital, the funding round also saw participation from BMW i Ventures, Datadog Inc., Hirtle Callaghan, SineWave Ventures, CRV, Scale Venture Partners, Flex Capital, Pelion Venture Partners, and several angel investors including senior executives from Apple and Amazon.

Traditionally, CodeRabbit has offered a straightforward AI code review tool that automatically catches syntax errors, logic bugs, and security vulnerabilities in code generated by AI tools in real-time. However, the company has noted that AI-generated code has become so prevalent across organizations that simply reviewing the quality of new code is no longer sufficient.

With the launch of Agentic Change Management, CodeRabbit aims to provide software engineering teams with a comprehensive solution to govern, evaluate, and prioritize code changes from multiple sources. The platform works by validating incoming pull requests using repository-wide context and sandboxed test environments, and then assessing their potential impact.

CodeRabbit's Agentic Change Management includes three core capabilities: CodeRabbit Triage, which prioritizes and routes pull requests based on value, dependencies, urgency, risk, and reviewer fit; CodeRabbit Change Stack, which visualizes the impact of changes on domain behavior, system dependencies, and integration, aiding developers in identifying architectural risks; and CodeRabbit Security, which continuously monitors new code for logic vulnerabilities and generates recommended fixes to prevent issues from surfacing in production.

By combining these features into a single platform, CodeRabbit aims to make it easier for software engineering teams to manage high-volume AI code changes from various sources without sacrificing control.
