Claude can now pull data from your browser tabs and keep working on your desktop

Anthropic has enhanced its Claude browser extension, allowing it to remember conversations across desktop, web, and mobile platforms. The Claude extension in Chrome now functions as a full Claude Cowork session, enabling the transfer of conversations, skills, and connectors between various applications. Prior to this update, browser sessions remained isolated, necessitating the start of conversations anew when switching devices.

With the current Claude in Chrome, users can interact with open web pages, including navigating links, inputting text, filling out forms, and switching between pages using their existing logins. This capability proves valuable for tools that do not directly connect with Claude, such as internal dashboards, legacy systems, and vendor portals.

For instance, if one needs to create a budget spreadsheet using invoices from multiple vendor sites, Claude can open each tab, extract the necessary data, and initiate the spreadsheet's creation. As these sessions are now associated with user accounts rather than a single device, the same task can be resumed later on the desktop app, incorporate local files, or compare it against previous data.

Anthropic has also broadened Claude's web interactions, introducing a dedicated in-app browser for Claude Code that allows it to read documentation within the coding environment. However, granting an AI agent the ability to act within a browser entails risks, particularly the risk of prompt injection. This involves hidden instructions embedded in webpages or documents that could redirect AI agents covertly.

Recent security research has exposed vulnerabilities in various AI browsing tools, highlighting this concern. To address this, Anthropic has implemented a new check that verifies consequential actions, such as form submissions or message transmissions, against the original request before execution. Nevertheless, Claude will still seek user permission before executing actions like purchases or sharing personal information.

The update is now available for Max and Team plans, with Pro access set to roll out in the coming weeks. Enterprise administrators can selectively enable it for specific domains. Prior to the Made by Google event, Google unveiled its latest hardware lineup, including four new Pixel 11 phones, the Pixel Watch 5, the debut of a new tracker, refreshed Pixel Buds Pro 2, and an array of new Gemini-powered software features.

All these announcements are available for pre-order and will be available for purchase on August 20, 2026. Prices have also increased across the lineup.
