City of Calgary, Rockyview County sign partnership to accelerate Prairie Economic Gateway

The City of Calgary and Rockyview County have partnered with the Canada Infrastructure Bank to accelerate the development of the Prairie Economic Gateway, a $3 billion logistics hub slated for the city's southeast limits. The memorandum of understanding, signed on Tuesday, aims to speed up the transition from engineering design to construction activities at the site, which spans 1,300 acres along 114 Avenue S.E.

Once completed, the hub is expected to become one of the largest trade, logistics, and manufacturing centers in Canada, anchored by the Canadian Pacific Kansas City rail network. City project manager Oyin Shyllon described the agreement as "very significant" in advancing the project from vision to reality. Rockyview County's intergovernmental services manager, Ben Manshanden, praised the Canada Infrastructure Bank's expertise as the "gold standard of due diligence."

Both parties had previously signed a memorandum of understanding in early 2025 to explore the potential participation of the Canada Infrastructure Bank in the project. The first phase of the project is expected to be ready for business operations by 2031, with enabling infrastructure work beginning in the coming year. The hub is projected to generate over $7 billion in economic activity and create more than 30,000 jobs over the next 10 to 12 years, with each dollar invested expected to generate $9 in private investment.
