Bundestag: Dos Santos-Wintz soll neue Unions-Fraktionsmanagerin werden

Berlin - The Union's new First Parliamentary Business Manager in the Bundestag is expected to be CDU Member of Parliament Catarina dos Santos-Wintz, according to the party's new Fracton leader Thorsten Frei. The 32-year-old jurist was proposed as a replacement for Steffen Bilger, who Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) had appointed to the Transport Ministry.

Frei wrote in an SMS to the members of parliament, as reported by the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, that "Catarina is an outstanding colleague who will carry out this important position with great force." Dos Santos-Wintz, who represents Aachen constituency, has been a Bundestag member since 2021 and is also a member of the Elders' Council.

Born in the Portuguese capital Lisbon, she has already served as Parliamentary Business Manager in the Union faction and was praised for her experience, networking skills, and balanced approach to issues. The decision to elect dos Santos-Wintz is set to be made during the first session of the CDU/CSU faction after the summer break, according to a faction spokesman.

The reshuffle comes following the resignation of faction leader Jens Spahn (CDU), who announced in a separate meeting that he and his husband had a child via a surrogate mother in the United States, a fact that sparked criticism within the party ranks.
