Broken road, fatal fall: Mom of 3-year-old run over in Bengaluru

A routine morning ride turned fatal for Medha Akarsh, a 32-year-old woman and mother of three, in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Medha, a resident of Anantnagar and originally from Kerala, was a worker at the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) office. She was traveling on Anantnagar Main Road with one of her colleagues, Ajay Guru, when the accident occurred around 9 am.

The incident happened when the car ahead of Guru suddenly braked due to a pedestrian walking onto the road. Guru applied the brakes as well, causing Medha to be thrown off the two-wheeler and fall onto the road. A mini goods vehicle approaching from the opposite direction then ran over the victim. Medha was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Residents were outraged by the incident, blaming the poor condition of the road for the accident and questioning the civic authorities for continued neglect of the stretch. While acknowledging the poor road conditions, the police noted that preliminary findings pointed to the sudden braking of the vehicle in front as the immediate cause of the accident. The driver of the goods vehicle fled the scene, and none of the bystanders noted its registration number. Police are now checking CCTV footage from the vicinity.

The victim's husband, Akarsh, and their three-year-old son were left to grieve the loss. The tragedy has sparked outrage among residents, demanding accountability from the authorities over the poor state of the road.
