Bangladeshi charged with killing 3 compatriots in Port Dickson

Bangladeshi national Md Idris Ali, 43, appeared in court today, charged with the murders of three Bangladeshi compatriots. Md Idris Ali nodded to acknowledge understanding the charges presented by magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli, but the magistrate ordered an interpreter to read the charges again, noting the accused's difficulty grasping the Bahasa Malaysia statements.

All three charges were read, yet the court deemed the accused's comprehension insufficient. Consequently, the hearing is set for August 13, an interpreter will re-explain the charges in a language the accused understands. The accused faces charges of murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which can result in the death penalty or 30 to 40 years in prison.

The alleged murders occurred in Taman Linggi and Sua Manggis, Port Dickson, between 3:30 pm and 4 pm on August 1. The accused is also charged with attempted murder of a Bangladeshi man, Md Kajal Mondol, in Taman Linggi at 4 pm on the same day. This charge under Section 307 of the Penal Code carries up to 10 years in prison and a fine.

Judge Tasnim Abu Bakar postponed the session to August 13, allowing for an interpreter to present the charge in a language the accused can understand. State prosecution director Engku Ahmad Rashdi Engku Abdillah denied bail for the accused.
