Adeleke declares Friday work-free day for Osun workers

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has announced a work-free day on Friday, August 14, 2026, for public service workers in the state before the upcoming gubernatorial election. This decision, as per a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, aims to allow workers to travel and prepare for voting in the election. All categories of workers are covered under this declaration, except those who are responsible for emergency and essential tasks.

Adeleke encouraged Osun workers, their relatives, and friends to participate actively in the election to safeguard their votes and ensure continuity. In his pre-election message to workers, the governor appreciated the support from organized labor and workers for his administration. He highlighted the mutually beneficial relationship between his administration and Osun workers, urging them to mobilize informal workers, artisans, and professional bodies.

The governor emphasized the importance of defending their constitutional right to vote and be voted for, stating, "We must remain strong in defence of our constitutional rights to vote and be voted for." Adeleke also appealed to the electorate to protect the gains made by his administration over the past three and a half years. He urged the citizens to continue defending the achievements of his administration, warning against a return to the "dark days" of the past.
