ADC proposes end to security votes, restricts official trips

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has introduced a comprehensive set of proposals aimed at reforming governance, restricting public spending, and enhancing accountability in Nigeria's political system. The party unveiled its 25-page document, titled 'The Orange Book,' in Abuja, outlining key measures to curb waste, strengthen public accountability, and redirect resources towards the welfare of Nigerians.

Among the most significant proposals is the abolition of opaque "security votes" and the introduction of stringent controls on official travel. These measures are intended to close avenues for misuse or diversion of public funds, ensuring that allocated resources are utilized for their intended purposes. The ADC also plans to limit per diem payments for government officials and prohibit the use of government assets for private purposes.

The party's governance overhaul emphasizes fiscal discipline and institutional accountability, with a focus on ensuring transparency in government operations. If the ADC forms the government in 2027, it would implement these reforms, accompanied by stronger institutions such as an independent judiciary, legislature, and the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The party also pledges to promote prudent management of public resources and to uphold the federal character principle, strengthen national unity, and promote equal access to opportunities.
