‘5·18 폄하’ 배재고, 한 달 징계 뒤 공식 경기…“많은 반성”

On the 13th, civil rights activist 이진숙 (Lee Jin-su) hosted a 'Revealing the 5·18 Democratic Movement National Open Forum' at the National Assembly. During the event, several speakers made controversial statements denying the 5·18 democratic movement and ridiculing it, leading to protests and strong opposition. Notably, 1979 remnant Provisional Presidential Office Assistant, 허화평 (He Hwa-pung) attended the forum.

The keynote speaker, 전 영훈 (Jeon Yong-hun), a former Seoul University professor, described the 5·18 movement as "the drunken fiasco of May 1980" and called for its "disintegration and reinterpretation" of the 'leftist political power' dominating the discourse. The New Hope National Movement, which Jeon represents, called the forum a joint effort.

He questioned citizens during his speech: "What did you denounce? What did you protest for? What did you establish?" The audience responded with strong opposition, and one person even called them to leave. The 5·18 Democratic Movement Memorial Ceremony presenter, 주동식 자유주의 작가회 공동장, 대환 (Joo Dong-seik), argued that 5·18 must be excluded from the constitution, stating, "There is no such spirit, ideology, principle, value, or worth in the previous Republic of Korea."

The Democratic United Party demanded the removal of 이진숙 and other speakers who denied the 5·18 movement from National Assembly. The National Assembly's main hall hosted a 'Chaos in the Lawmaking Process and Denial of the 5·18 Democratic Movement Civil Witness Rally.'
