Four residents of a care center in Tanjung Rambutan appeared in Ipoh Magistrate Court on Friday, accused of murder and causing the death of a fellow resident at the facility, according to local reports. Ahmad Faiz Mohd Rauhi, 35, is charged with killing Mohd Fauzir Hussin, 54, while Zaid Shaari, 50, Radzuan Suboh, 55, and Abdul Halim Mohd Niza, 47, are accused of causing the victim's death through an act not amounting to murder.

No pleas were entered by the four men, as the case was read out before Magistrate Norizan Riduan due to its high court jurisdiction and inability to be guaranteed. Ahmad Faiz is alleged to have killed Mohd Fauzir at the Bakti Care Center in Taman Chong Kwee, Tanjung Rambutan between 5:30 PM and 5:41 PM on August 4, under Section 302 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which carries a sentence of death or between 30 to 40 years in prison, and a minimum fine of 12 years if found guilty.

Meanwhile, Zaid, Radzuan, and Abdul Halim are charged with participating in causing the victim's death with the intention of causing death at the same location, time, and date, under Section 304(a) of the Criminal Procedure Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and a fine, if found guilty. Abdul Halim informed the court that he suffers from schizophrenia and had received treatment at Hospital Bahagia before being placed at the care center.

However, Deputy Prosecutor Zarris Sofea Zainudin stated that the prosecution has checked the psychiatric report, and at this stage, there is no official information about the alleged mental illness. Zarris asked for further instructions to be given to the investigating officers regarding the charge, but remained without a ruling that would offer any assurance to all the accused.

The magistrate then ordered Abdul Halim to undergo a psychiatric examination under Section 342 of the Penal Code to determine his mental state and eligibility to be tried. The court set September 11 for the resumption of the hearing for the autopsy and psychiatric reports. Earlier, Perak Police Chief Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin confirmed the death of a 54-year-old man at the care facility due to severe head trauma.

Initial investigations found the victim allegedly beaten and stamped on by several residents under the direction of a caretaker, after the man was found behaving aggressively and disturbing other residents late on August 3.
