Four residents at a care center in Tanjung Rambutan are facing murder charges for allegedly killing and causing the death of a fellow resident at the center, according to court documents released last week. Ahmad Faiz Mohd Rauhi, 35, is accused of killing Mohd Fauzir Hussin, 54, while Zaid Shaari, 50, Radzuan Suboh, 55, and Abdul Halim Mohd Niza, 47, are charged with causing the death of the victim by means likely to cause death, all of which carry penalties of life imprisonment or 30 to 40 years in prison.

No pleas have been recorded from the four men, as the case is being heard by the High Court and cannot be dismissed. Ahmad Faiz is accused of killing Mohd Fauzir at the Bakti Care Center in Tanjung Rambutan between 5 p.m. and 5:41 p.m. on August 4, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which could lead to death by hanging or imprisonment for 30 to 40 years, and a fine of at least 12 years if found guilty.

Zaid, Radzuan, and Abdul Halim are accused of acting together to cause the death of the victim with the intention of causing death at the same time, place, and date. They are charged under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for their roles in the incident, which could result in up to 30 years in prison and a fine if found guilty. Following the reading of the charges, Abdul Halim informed the court that he suffers from schizophrenia and has received treatment at Bahagia Hospital before being placed at the care center.

However, Deputy Prosecutor Zarris Sofea Zainudin stated that the prosecution has reviewed the medical reports and there is no confirmed information regarding the defendants' mental health issues. Zarris Sofea requested further instructions from the investigating officers regarding the charges, but remained undecided on offering any assurance to the defendants.

The court then ordered Abdul Halim to undergo a psychiatric examination under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code to determine his mental state and eligibility to be tried. The court has set September 11 as the date for the next hearing to review the autopsy report and psychiatric assessment. Earlier, Perak Police Chief Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin confirmed the death of a 54-year-old man at the care center due to severe head trauma, which occurred after he was reportedly beaten and kicked by several residents under the order of a caregiver, following an incident of aggressive behavior on August 3.
