3 cops arrested for alleged involvement in prisoner's escape in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi police announced on Wednesday the arrest of three officers, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector, a Head Constable, and a Constable, for their suspected role in a prisoner's escape from Adiala jail. The guards were on duty at Adiala jail when they allegedly conspired to help a prisoner named Hammad, who had a history of serious criminal activity, evade capture.

According to the police, Hammad and his accomplices hatched a plan to smuggle the prisoner into a private vehicle. When the Mandra police attempted to apprehend them, Hammad and his associates reportedly opened fire on the officers. One of the accomplices, identified as Danial, was subsequently apprehended. A Kalashnikov rifle was found in Danial's possession, according to the police.

Meanwhile, SDPO Syed Danyial Hassan reported that the officials accompanying Hammad requested the vehicle driver to halt at a hotel. However, the driver exhibited suspicion and alerted the Mandra police. Upon arrival, the accomplices transported Hammad to a private car and engaged in gunfire with the police. The police van was subsequently seized.

A detailed first information report was lodged at the Mandra police station, invoking various sections of Pakistan's Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997. Ongoing search operations are underway to locate Hammad.
