ZADNA terminates CEO’s contract

The board of the .ZA Domain Name Authority (ZADNA) has officially terminated Michael Molehe Wesi's contract as CEO, effective June 8. Wesi was previously suspended in October 2025 over allegations of misconduct and governance failures. The termination follows a disciplinary process, as per the ZADNA board.

To maintain operations, the board has implemented "appropriate" governance and leadership arrangements. Advocate Lerato Seema has been appointed as acting CEO, while a permanent CEO is being sought, aligning with governance requirements. The board emphasizes its commitment to good corporate governance, transparency, and accountability, promising to communicate any material developments related to the permanent CEO appointment through proper channels.

Wesi was CEO from August 2020, succeeding Peter Madavhu, who filled the role temporarily after Vika Mpisane was suspended in January 2019 due to a disciplinary hearing for undisclosed reasons. Mpisane was later dismissed in July 2019. Allegations against Wesi included unethical leadership, breach of confidentiality agreements, travel and subsistence policy violations, and excessive credit card usage.

While no formal policy breaches were found, the investigation identified governance issues such as weak oversight, poor cost discipline, and excessive use of ZADNA's resources, including spending on expensive restaurants, entertainment, alcohol, overseas travel, and luxury vehicle rentals during the 2024/2025 financial year.
