Why we plotted coup against Tinubu govt –Army Colonel

A Nigerian Army Colonel, Mohammed Ma’aji, has accused the authorities of intervening in an alleged plot to overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu. Ma’aji claims that the plot was driven by a deep sense of patriotism and frustration over worsening conditions in the country. He sought leniency from the government, stating that his motive was not personal ambition but a desire for a better Nigeria.

Ma’aji alleged that the plot emerged from concerns among military personnel about poor governance, insecurity, inadequate welfare, and declining living standards. He expressed worry over his ability to raise five children on a meagre salary and the lack of hope for the common man in Nigeria. The alleged plan was still at a stage of mobilisation when security authorities intervened.

Ma’aji denied involvement of foreign collaborators and emphasised that the plot was motivated by a love for Nigeria.
