Nepal-based accused in killing of retired IPS officer’s wife detained under PD Act

The Hyderabad City Police have detained Sunil Bahadur Aauji, a 29-year-old Nepali national, under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act on Tuesday, August 11. Aauji, who is one of the accused individuals in the killing of Tanuja Ranjan, the wife of retired IPS officer Ray Vinay Ranjan, was apprehended at his residence in Prashasan Nagar.

According to police reports, Aauji, along with his associates, allegedly entered the victim's home in Jubilee Hills on May 8, restrained and suffocated her to death, and fled with stolen valuables, including gold ornaments. Aauji was initially arrested on May 22 and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. He has also been linked to two other criminal cases registered in 2024 in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

The detention order was issued by the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police on August 10, following a review of the seriousness of the alleged offenses and the evidence presented.
