VHR seeks Bharat Ratna for Pingali Venkaiah

Renowned Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha member, V. Hanumantha Rao, has implored Prime Minister Narendra Modi to award the Bharat Ratna posthumously to Pingali Venkaiah, the creator of the Indian National Flag. In a letter, Mr. Hanumantha Rao expressed appreciation for the Union government's initiative to hold Tiranga rallies nationwide on August 14 during Independence Day.

However, he criticized the lack of recognition bestowed upon Pingali Venkaiah's significant contributions to the freedom movement. Mr. Rao reminded the audience that Venkaiah designed the national flag in 1921, which was endorsed by Mahatma Gandhi. He argued that bestowing the country's highest civilian honor on the flag designer would be a fitting tribute to his lifelong service to the nation and his enduring impact on India's struggle for independence.

The Congress leader urged the Prime Minister to take necessary steps to confer the Bharat Ratna upon Pingali Venkaiah.
