[UPDATED] MACC cripples illegal frozen chicken import syndicate in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has dismantled a syndicate involved in the illegal import of frozen chicken from China into Sabah. The syndicate allegedly bribed port enforcement officers to allow the frozen chicken into the country. During a joint operation between MACC Intelligence Division, Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA), and Customs Department, 10 containers of the frozen chicken were seized.

Investigations revealed that the containers were falsely declared, and did not undergo the necessary inspection process. Three men in their 30s to 50s, who acted as forwarding agents and a company manager, were arrested during the operation. MACC is also investigating other individuals involved. MACC chief commissioner, Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, confirmed the operation and arrests, stating that the case is being investigated under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009.

The three suspects will be brought to the Kota Kinabalu Magistrate's Court for a remand application.
