UAE worker protection schemes pay out more than Dh832 million

During the first half of 2026, the UAE's worker protection system disbursed over Dh832 million in compensation, representing significant strides in safeguarding labor rights, ensuring financial security and enhancing workplace wellbeing. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) reported that more than 44,000 workers received compensation totaling over Dh320 million through the Workers Protection Programme by the end of June.

Separately, the Unemployment Insurance Scheme disbursed more than Dh512 million to jobless workers from the beginning of 2024 up to June 2026.

Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Protection at MoHRE, Dalal Alshehhi, attributed the positive outcomes to the ministry's commitment to creating a secure, stable and sustainable work environment. She emphasized that the ministry's strategy centers on forging partnerships with federal and local government bodies and the private sector to improve compliance with labor laws and bolster worker protection.

The ministry orchestrated celebrations across more than 60 locations, engaging around 800,000 workers in social inclusion and wellbeing initiatives. These activities coincided with national events and holidays.

The ministry also reported robust progress in worker awareness programmes, conducted in 17 languages. All targeted workers underwent mandatory guidance courses, while over 1.3 million benefited from specialized programs focused on rights, responsibilities, and workplace regulations. The ministry's digital and on-the-ground inspection systems supported the implementation of the Occupational Heat Stress Prevention Policy, which provided over 12,000 rest stations for delivery riders during the June 15 to September 15 heat-stress period.

Labour accommodation standards have also been strengthened, with more than 2,800 registered facilities catering to approximately two million workers. These accommodations are subject to health, safety and comfort standards. The first-half results underscore the UAE's comprehensive approach to labor protection and align with the broader "We the UAE 2031" vision.
