Tyla to celebrate her new album 'A*Pop' with a special event at Gold Reef City

Grammy Award-winning artist Tyla will host a special A*POP Takeover at Johannesburg's Gold Reef City amusement park on August 16, in collaboration with South African Tourism and powered by Absa. The park will be transformed into a celebration of the musician's second album, A*POP, which dropped on July 24. Tyla, who is popularly known among her fans as the Tygers, released her second album after an extensive global tour and is returning to her hometown to celebrate with her initial supporters.

Tyla revealed her excitement about the event to eNCA, stating that Johannesburg has played a significant role in shaping her as an artist and an individual, as she grew up in the city. She emphasized how the Joburg Tigers, her first supporters, helped her grow as an artist and felt privileged to return to the city and share this special day with them. The A*POP Takeover is a way for Tyla to express her gratitude to her hometown and connect with her roots.

The Tygers can secure their spot at the event by creating a TikTok video using any song from the A*POP album. South African Tourism will provide transportation from various parts of Gauteng to Gold Reef City, allowing young South Africans the chance to experience the celebration. Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille praised Tyla's authenticity and advocacy for South Africa, noting that one must visit the country to appreciate its beauty and people.

Tyla is no stranger to hosting pop-up moments for her local fans. Two years ago, she organized a one-day-only album release pop-up shop and fan meet-and-greet at the Mall of Africa in Midrand, which was presented by Sony Music Africa and Spotify Africa.
