Trump says it would be 'terrible mistake' to remove Infantino

US President Donald Trump has expressed strong support for current FIFA President Gianni Infantino, stating that removing him from his position would be a terrible mistake. This sentiment came after Uefa, Concacaf, and the Asian Football Confederation issued an open letter accusing Infantino of betraying trust through deception regarding his proposed Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE).

FFE would have entailed the creation of a new company to oversee commercial and ticketing rights across all FIFA competitions, including the World Cup, with 21% of the shares sold to a private investment firm. Trump, in a social media post, emphasized that FIFA would be making a grave error if they even contemplated replacing Infantino.

The President commended Infantino for his leadership, noting that he presided over the most successful World Cup ever, holding the record four times. Trump argued that Infantino's tenure has been instrumental in generating substantial success and profitability for FIFA. He warned that removing Infantino would have dire consequences, making it impossible for FIFA to replicate the same level of success and profitability in the future.

The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, took place this summer. Spain emerged victorious, defeating Argentina in the final to claim the championship title.
