Troops repel ISWAP attack on Borno base, kill many terrorists

In a dramatic nighttime confrontation, soldiers from the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) successfully thwarted an assault by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State. The brazen midnight attack, which commenced around 12:20 am on Monday, saw the insurgents make a determined push to overrun the military outpost.

However, the steadfastness of the troops proved to be the decisive factor, as they engaged the terrorists in a ruthless firefight. According to Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Media Information Officer for the operation, the troops unleashed a barrage of overwhelming firepower, compelling the heavily armed assailants to flee in disorder following heavy losses.

"During the engagement, troops eliminated several of the terrorists and recovered weaponry, ammunition, and communication devices," Goni remarked. Surveillance footage analyzed by military intelligence following the battle confirmed that the retreating terrorists had managed to evacuate a significant number of deceased and injured comrades as they made their hasty retreat into the darkness.

Goni stated that the recovered equipment and surveillance materials are presently undergoing meticulous operational assessment. Although the victory was emphatic, Goni acknowledged that the attack inflicted casualties, as a portion of the base's defensive line was briefly penetrated during the intense encounter, resulting in injuries to some soldiers. However, he noted that these wounded personnel are currently receiving prompt medical care.
