Tourism Minister outlines government’s strategic decision to revamp Du Bois Centre

Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Ghanaian Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, announced the government's plan to revamp the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre. This decision, made in partnership with the Du Bois Foundation from the United States, aims to bolster cultural diplomacy and safeguard historical authenticity. Gomashie emphasized that the collaboration would also boost the Centre's global standing, thanks to technical know-how, international funding, and improved archival and research capabilities.

The initiative seeks to deepen ties between Ghana and the African diaspora, transforming the Centre into a dynamic center for Pan-African scholarship, tourism, and cultural exchange, while solidifying Ghana's role in preserving shared Black history. Plans are underway to elevate the Centre's status to match that of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

Gomashie further detailed the recent transformation of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, highlighting significant governance changes, including the establishment of a Governing Board in October 2025. Since then, the Park's website has been fully functional, offering virtual tours, and social media presence has surged, with Facebook followers expanding from 475 to over 14,200 in eight months.

Infrastructure upgrades, such as lighting rewiring, restoration of a musical fountain, landscaping enhancements, and the installation of 25 marble benches, have also been implemented. Energy costs have decreased, with an energy audit completed and a solar transition in progress, expected to be finished by the end of March. The Minister also revealed plans to operationalize the Dr Kwame Nkrumah Presidential Library in collaboration with the Ghana Library Authority, with the inauguration slated during the 2026 Nkrumah Festival.
