Thomas Gottschalk Siblings: Meet Christoph and Raphaela Ackermann

Thomas Johannes Gottschalk is a well-known German entertainment personality, with a career spanning decades in radio, television, and film. Born in Bamberg, Bavaria, on 18 May 1950, he grew up in Kulmbach after relocating from Upper Silesia with his family during the post-World War II era. After studying German philology and history, he decided to pursue a career in entertainment, eventually becoming one of the most recognizable figures in German-speaking media.

Gottschalk has two younger siblings: Christoph Gottschalk and Raphaela Ackermann. His brother Christoph was born approximately three years after Thomas and has had a career as a media entrepreneur and author, closely involved in product placements for the popular show Wetten, dass..? He later reinvented himself as a personality coach.

Their sister, Raphaela Ackermann, was born in 1960 and is about ten years younger than Thomas. She also had a career in television as a moderator and interviewer, working with various celebrities and red-carpet events. Later, she transformed herself into a personality coach in 2020.

Gottschalk started his professional journey in the early 1970s, working as a freelance contributor to Bayerischer Rundfunk's youth programs. He went on to anchor news segments and gained popularity as the host of the radio show Pop nach acht. His television career took off with youth shows such as Szene and Telespiele, and later expanded to programs like Thommys Pop Show and Na sowas! on ZDF. His most iconic role came as the host of Wetten, dass..?, which aired from 1987 to 2011 and reached up to 15 million viewers.

Throughout his career, Gottschalk has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Kurt-Magnus-Preis, Goldener Gong, Goldene Kamera, Telestar, Romy awards, Goldenes Schlitzohr, Goldenes Kabel, Deutscher Fernsehpreis, Bayerischer Fernsehpreis, Goldene Feder, Karl-Valentin-Orden, Rose d’Or, and Bambi awards. He was also named an honorary citizen of Kulmbach and received the Bavarian Order of Merit in 2001.
