Tabung Haji lodged 12 reports over RCI findings

Tabung Haji submitted 12 reports to both the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) following the findings in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the pilgrimage fund, according to Minister Dr Zulkifli Hasan. The reports consisted of six filed with the police and six with the MACC. Tabung Haji has cooperated fully with the authorities, submitting six reports to the police and six to the MACC for investigation.

Immediate action by the authorities has been noted, with special teams established by the MACC and police following the RCI report disclosure. Investigations have resulted in enforcement actions, including the detention of individuals accused of misconduct, bribery, abuse of power, and governance breaches. The government is committed to addressing misconduct and abuse, with further investigations ongoing based on jurisdiction.

A proposal to establish a multi-agency forensic task force to investigate high-risk investments is being considered. A forensic audit has been conducted on the investments in the RCI report. The government is also strengthening the Tabung Haji Act 1995, including accounting standards and penalties for financial statement misreporting.

Tabung Haji's profit distributions have been based on audited financial statements since 2022. A task force involving Tabung Haji, Bank Negara Malaysia, and the Securities Commission is reviewing the regulatory framework for managing Tabung Haji's funds and investments. The government's actions aim to investigate, take enforcement action, recover assets, and strengthen laws and governance to protect depositors' trust and interests.

So far, 75% of the RCI recommendations have been implemented, with the remaining six in various stages of implementation, including amendments to the Tabung Haji Act and strengthening regulatory oversight.
