Supriya Sule opens up about father Sharad Pawar’s progressive parenting: ‘Wanted to adopt’

Supriya Sule, the daughter of Indian politician Sharad Pawar, has shed light on her father's progressive parenting style in a recent podcast interview. During her conversation with actor Soha Ali Khan's podcast All About Her, Sule revealed that her father had a specific condition before he agreed to marry her mother. He wanted her to know that they would only have one child, regardless of its gender.

Sule shared that her father even underwent a family planning surgery after her birth, never burdening her mother with the process. When Sule shared her intention to have a second child, Pawar's reaction was surprisingly matter-of-fact. He simply asked her why she chose to have another child, respecting her decision and not pressuring her.

This progressive approach to family planning and raising children is a reflection of Pawar's liberal mindset, as Sule described. Neha Cadabam, a senior psychologist, emphasized the significance of the father-daughter bond in shaping a child's emotional well-being. She stated that a father's support and encouragement can instill a sense of competence and confidence in his daughter, enabling her to take risks.

Additionally, psychologist Rima Bhandekar highlighted that supportive parenting allows children to explore their own passions and interests, without feeling pressured to follow in their parents' footsteps or societal expectations.
