Gentle Monster trailer sees Léa Seydoux facing dark home truths

In the captivating trailer of "Gentle Monster," Léa Seydoux takes on the role of a woman grappling with unsettling truths within her own household. While the film isn't directly about the Korean eyewear brand, its director found inspiration in the company's name. Marie Kreutzer, the writer and director, brought to life the story of concert pianist Lucy (played by Seydoux), whose seemingly perfect life with her husband Philip (Laurence Rupp) and son takes a dramatic turn when the police arrive with a search warrant, accusing Philip of a grave crime.

As Lucy struggles to confront the accusations against her husband, she must untangle a web of lies and protect her son. The complex themes of the film resonate deeply with Kreutzer, who previously directed the 2022 film "Corsage," starring Florian Teichtmeister, who faced similar allegations. In May 2026, Kreutzer confided in The Hollywood Reporter, expressing her initial reluctance to create "Gentle Monster" due to the inevitable connection to the brand.

However, she soon realized that the story deserved to be told, despite the potential backlash. The trailer showcases the stunning cinematography by Judith Kaufmann, a captivating score by Camille, and Seydoux's powerful performance alongside Jella Haase and Catherine Deneuve. "Gentle Monster" is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September, followed by a select cinema release on October 30 and a streaming debut on Netflix on November 18.
