[사설] 증거도 없이 ‘부정선거’ 목소리 높이는 국힘

Following the 6·3 local elections, voices within the National Power (국민의힘) have grown louder, arguing that there was a possibility of "improper elections" without any concrete evidence. Despite the Special Investigation Committee on the 6·3 Local Elections (특별위원회) not presenting any evidence that the vote counts were manipulated by the Election Management Board (선관위), the ruling party's lawmakers began fueling the rumor by claiming that if vote counts were altered, then the number of votes each candidate received would also be affected.

National Power lawmaker Kim Jung-won made a statement at a press conference on the 9th, claiming that the Election Management Board recorded the number of voters in 117 districts before the actual counting and then corrected it later, which could have led to manipulation of vote counts. His party's chief representative, Choi Bo-young, also agreed with the claim.

The same argument was repeated at a special investigation committee meeting on the 12th. The Election Management Board's statement that the final voter count or re-counting results would not be affected was criticized as overly lenient. However, it was pointed out by 윤상현, the chairman of the Special Investigation Committee, that connecting improper vote counts to manipulation of votes and party standings is a logical leap.

Regardless, the voices of 국민의힘 lawmakers have spread within the party, suggesting that this is being driven by political calculations to secure the party's majority for the next term.
