Stop Killing Games Joins Dutch Consumer Group's $457M Lawsuit Against Sony Over Digital Store 'Monopoly'

The Stop Killing Games movement has joined a $457 million lawsuit against Sony, alleging its digital game store creates a monopoly in the video game market. This new lawsuit, filed by Dutch consumer organization Stichting Massaschade & Consument, accuses Sony of artificially inflating prices on the PlayStation store for Dutch users.

The lawsuit claims Sony's switch to a fully online shopping experience is unlawful and seeks repayment for the alleged profits made from Dutch players. Stop Killing Games, a consumer-led initiative formed in 2024, has also called for Sony to repay Dutch gamers and provide real alternatives to the online store. The movement gained significant traction, garnering over 1.2 million signatures on a petition through the European Citizens' Initiative and presenting its case to the European Commission.

Sony has yet to respond to the lawsuits, which include class-action claims in the U.K., a complaint from Mexican lawmakers to the National Antitrust Commission, and a lawsuit filed by PlayStation console owners seeking refunds due to price increases.
