Spotify to launch badge identifying AI music

Spotify plans to introduce a new AI Persona badge in mid-September, which will clearly identify content produced by artificial intelligence rather than real musicians. The company explained that users have expressed concern about encountering AI-generated profiles that appear human, only to discover they are AI-powered. This move is part of Spotify's ongoing efforts to increase transparency about the origin of music on its platform, as the streaming service faces growing industry-wide concerns about AI-generated content overwhelming its catalogues.

In April, Spotify launched the Verified by Spotify badge, which indicates that a profile has been reviewed and meets the company's authenticity standards. Alongside AI Persona profiles, the company will now apply badges to relevant profiles to help users distinguish between AI-generated and human-produced content. Spotify explicitly stated that it will not include AI Personas in editorial or personalized recommendations unless a user chooses to follow an AI Persona.
