Senior OpenAI executive Brad Lightcap to leave for new venture

Senior OpenAI executive Brad Lightcap announced on Tuesday his departure from the company to embark on a new venture as ChatGPT's creator prepares for an upcoming public listing amidst surging AI interest. Lightcap, in a recent post on X, expressed his focus on the future and the critical elements the world must address as they enter this new phase.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Lightcap on future endeavors following his announcement. Lightcap, who shifted from chief operating officer to lead special projects in April, previously collaborated with Altman at venture capital firm Y Combinator and joined OpenAI in 2018. The company stated that Lightcap's recent responsibilities had already shifted away from managing large organizations, so his departure is not anticipated to affect teams.

Lightcap's move comes after Fidji Simo, OpenAI's CEO of AGI deployment, announced in July her intention to step down from her full-time role and transition to a part-time advisory position at the ChatGPT maker post an extended medical leave due to a neuroimmune condition.
