Saudi Arabia enters Kulaybin season: 13 days of peak heat and date harvest

Saudi Arabia has entered the Kulaybin season, a 13-day period marked by intense summer heat and the ripening of dates. This traditional anwa phase, tied to star observation for tracking seasonal changes, will last until August 23. The Kulaybin season, named after two closely positioned stars, falls within the Nathrah phase of the lunar mansions and precedes the Suhail season.

Agricultural researcher Mohammed Al-Wadiei notes that the start of Kulaybin is crucial for agricultural planning, as it coincides with the peak summer heat and the ripening of various crops and fruits, particularly dates and rutab. In different regions of the Kingdom, palm trees color, mature, and are harvested during this period, with timing varying based on date type, location, and climate.

While modern astronomy and meteorology now provide scientific tools for tracking weather changes and crop development, the cultural heritage of the Kulaybin season remains important. Farmers traditionally used star positions for organizing work and monitoring crops, and this knowledge continues to be part of local memory.
