Russia launches overnight ballistic missile attack on Kyiv

On the night of August 11, Russian ballistic missiles launched a barrage of attacks on Kyiv, triggering devastating explosions that destroyed a warehouse and struck a children's hospital, according to Mayor Vitalii Klitschko. "Explosions in the capital. The city is under ballistic attack. Stay in shelters," he warned on social media. The Air Force had previously issued warnings of several missiles heading towards the capital.

The State Emergency Service reported that one of the missiles hit the grounds of a children's hospital in the Shevchenkivskyi district, leaving two large craters, shattering windows, and rupturing a gas pipe. However, hospital staff and patients had already evacuated to air raid shelters before the missile strike, resulting in no injuries at the medical center. Footage showed the extensive damage caused by the explosion.

Despite the extensive damage, the incident resulted in only one injury in Kyiv: a warehouse in the Shevchenkivskyi district caught fire after a missile strike, but first responders quickly extinguished the blaze. The broader Kyiv region also faced an overnight assault, with drones and ballistic missiles targeted at Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia.

In total, Russian forces launched 11 ballistic and hypersonic missiles and 120 attack drones during the overnight assault. Air defenses managed to intercept 98 of the drones but were unable to stop any of the missiles.
