'Rude to say no': All Blacks icon performs solo haka against current team

Former New Zealand rugby icon Ma a Nonu, a respected 44-year-old who once played 103 games for the All Blacks from 2003-15, performed a solo haka during a recent match against the current All Blacks team. The match, a friendly between the Sharks and the All Blacks, ended with a resounding 54-0 victory for the visiting team. Nonu, who joined the Sharks with the intention of developing young players and to help shore up their injured roster, initially hesitated when asked to perform the haka in response to the All Blacks traditional challenge.

However, he ultimately agreed to honor the request, citing respect for his former teammates and his family. Standing alone on the field, Ma a Nonu executed the All Blacks' traditional haka, Kapa o Pango, to the amazement and respect of the crowd. The once dominant All Blacks team, now consisting only of a handful of players from Nonu's last squad, managed to keep the game competitive despite the early setback.

Nonu, despite his age, gave his all for the final 20 minutes, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to show his respect and support for the All Blacks. The outcome of the match is inconsequential compared to the historical significance of this act of respect and camaraderie between two rugby giants.
