RoS reviewing Bersatu’s status in PN

The Registrar of Societies (RoS) is currently examining a complaint filed by Bersatu concerning its membership status within Perikatan Nasional (PN). This review follows PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's recent assertion that Bersatu is no longer an integral part of the opposition coalition. According to the RoS, it has received a letter from Bersatu today and is meticulously assessing the concerns under the Societies Act 1966, Societies Regulations 1984, PN’s constitution, and the organization’s official records.

All information, documents, and explanations provided by the involved parties will be thoroughly scrutinized to ensure a comprehensive and law-abiding review. The RoS emphasized that all registered organizations must adhere to the Societies Act, pertinent regulations, and respective constitutions. They stated that they would conduct their duties professionally and impartially, without any vested interest in any organization or political party.

Hadi Awang argued that PN's constitution declares that any party opting to join a new alliance would forfeit its membership in the coalition. He referenced Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin's statement that the party intended to form a new coalition post the Negeri Sembilan state election. However, Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali contested Hadi's claim, asserting that there is no provision in PN's constitution for the automatic termination of a component party's membership.

Muhyiddin had previously stated that Bersatu was intentionally excluded from the special PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16, which finalized the seat allocation among the coalition’s component parties ahead of the Negeri Sembilan state election.
