Ravindra Jadeja: The last man standing from India’s 2015 core

In August 2015, India embarked on Virat Kohli's maiden full Test series as captain in Sri Lanka, marking a new era in cricket. MS Dhoni, who had retired from Test cricket months prior, was succeeded by a new generation led by Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, R Ashwin, and Rohit Sharma. Yet, Ravindra Jadeja remained a constant, albeit not part of that inaugural tour.

He returned a few months later to the home series against South Africa. Fast forward to 2026, and the team has undergone significant changes, with Ashwin, Rohit, Kohli, and Pujara all departing. Jadeja, however, has remained steadfast. As Saurashtra head coach Niraj Odedra remarked, Jadeja is a versatile player who can bowl and bat across different positions, delivering runs when needed.

His all-round abilities set him apart, as highlighted by Odedra. Jadeja's rise to prominence began with his all-round skills. Initially regarded as India's premier left-arm spinner, he later showcased his batting prowess, scoring a maiden Test century in 2018 and a career-best 175 against West Indies. His adaptability and consistency have earned him a permanent spot in the team.

Despite facing setbacks like injuries and performance dips, Jadeja's resilience and strong mindset have kept him going. Each time he faced adversity, he bounced back stronger, proving his mettle on the field. As he continues to be a vital cog in India's cricket machinery, Jadeja stands as a testament to unwavering determination and dedication to the sport.
