Australian musician Nick Cave has garnered a vast fanbase over his extensive career, but a recent online encounter has sparked a heated debate about the use of AI in the creative process. After OpenAI introduced ChatGPT, Cave penned a scathing blog post criticizing the replication of his work using this tool. In his writing, he emphasized that suffering and the "internal human struggle of creation" are essential for genuine, human-centric music.

Cave firmly believed that algorithms, in their current state, lack the ability to feel, making AI-generated lyrics or complete songs incapable of capturing the audience's attention in the same way as authentic human artistry. Despite these reservations, Cave acknowledged that ChatGPT was still in its early stages and would continue to improve.

However, he remained resolute in his stance that AI could never replicate the impact of genuine human creativity. The controversy surrounding AI-generated music has only intensified, with numerous tools and platforms now available for generating music, including Canva's built-in generator, Gemini's Lyria 3, and Suno AI. In fact, Deezer reported that as of November last year, a third of songs uploaded to their platform were AI-generated.

More recently, the company's AI detection tool uncovered that nearly half of all daily uploads were AI-created, resulting in over 90,000 songs.
