Police mourn 10 officers killed in gun battle with bandits in Kebbi

On Monday, a fierce gun battle between police officers and suspected bandits erupted in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, resulting in the tragic loss of ten police lives and two civilian casualties. The Nigeria Police Force has paid its respects to the fallen officers and pledged to continue their pursuit of justice.

CSP Ani Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, detailing that the confrontation occurred around 9:25 a.m. when police operatives intercepted a suspected bandit convoy moving between Zamfara and Kebbi states. During the engagement, 17 suspected bandits were neutralized, while four of the attackers' motorcycles were destroyed.

Four police personnel sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention, while two civilians were also killed during the skirmish. The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, expressed his profound grief over the loss of life and extended his condolences to the families of the fallen officers, describing the incident as a significant blow to the police force and the nation as a whole.

The remains of the ten deceased officers have been returned to Birnin Kebbi, while the police have stated that the affected region has been brought under control. Additional personnel have been deployed to ensure operational continuity and the apprehension of the remaining suspected bandits. The police remain steadfast in their commitment to supporting the families of the deceased and injured officers, while resolutely vowing to bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
