Hasina extradition request under examination: MEA

India has confirmed that Bangladesh's request for the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is currently being examined in accordance with established procedures, maintaining its unchanged stance on the matter. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced this during a bi-weekly media briefing in New Delhi. Simultaneously, investigations into the murder case of Bangladeshi activist Sharif Osman Hadi are progressing.

Jaiswal clarified that the extradition issue is being handled through standard protocols, emphasizing that India's position on the matter has remained consistent. The conversation between the High Commissioner and Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman focused on various issues, including Hasina's extradition and the apprehension of suspects in Hadi's murder. Following their meeting, Bangladesh expressed hope for expedited extradition proceedings and called for the handover of the accused in Hadi's killing.

The murder of Hadi, a prominent critic of the government, occurred on December 12, 2022. Two Bangladeshi citizens, Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain, were subsequently arrested and are suspected to be involved in the case. The Indian High Commissioner, Dinesh Trivedi, described his initial discussions with Rahman as productive, noting the shared aspirations between the two nations.

The Indian High Commission also reiterated its commitment to collaborating with the Bangladeshi administration and citizens, emphasizing a people-centric approach to bolster bilateral relations.
