Osun guber: You can’t kill same people you want to govern – Dantalle warns politicians

The National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Yusuf Dantalle, has voiced his concerns over the increasing instances of electoral violence in Osun State as the August 15 governorship election looms. According to the DAILY POST, several local government areas within the state have been identified as potential hotspots for election-related violence.

Addressing the issue in an interview with Arise News, Dantalle emphasized the importance of respecting the citizens one seeks to govern, warning against the destruction of lives and property. He highlighted the condemnation from the IPAC and urged key stakeholders, including political actors, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and traditional rulers, to prioritize the well-being of Osun's residents.

Dantalle asserted that harming those intended to be governed is unacceptable and condemned the destruction of lives and property, as well as the protests and counter-protests that have ensued. He urged all stakeholders involved in the Osun election to recognize that this behavior deviates from democratic principles, which are centered around allowing the people to freely and fairly choose their leaders.

Dantalle emphasized the need for caution and cautioned against allowing such actions to persist, as they could foreshadow similar issues in the upcoming 2027 elections. He called for extreme caution to be exercised in order to avoid undermining the progress made in Osun State.
