OPINION: Adeleke and Tinubu versus Olukoyede

Nigeria's current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has transformed into an unfamiliar and potentially unrecognizable nation. A prominent Yoruba individual once expressed concern over the nation's unsettling transformation, yet he seems to have retreated in the face of the country's worsening condition. He had anticipated the present chaotic state and publicly warned about the country's political, economic, and governance trajectory.

His fears have proven accurate as Nigeria continues to descend into increasing strangeness. Corruption and taintedness have become the norm and even a mark of prestige within Tinubu's administration. The ruling party, APC, deems anyone with any association with corruption as pre-qualified for high-ranking positions. The country's political, legal, and judicial systems have also deteriorated, with judges now serving as the ultimate decision-makers for political office holders.

This has led to a concerning erosion of democratic principles, with the judiciary playing a dominant role in shaping the country's political landscape. In recent events, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) made arrests of key officials in Osun state, alleging fraud. However, the lack of transparency surrounding the arrest and lack of publicly disclosed evidence raises suspicions of political motivations behind the actions.

The Osun state government, governed by the opposition Accord party, is concerned about the potential impact of these actions on their ability to fulfill financial obligations and honor contracts. The actions of the EFCC have been labeled as illegal and politically motivated, particularly as a gubernatorial election is scheduled for August 15.
