'Not an ordinary year': Pakistani students receive their CIE AS & A Level results for June series

Cambridge International Education (CIE) AS and A Level students in Pakistan received their results for the June 2026 exam series on Tuesday. The CIE, a division of Cambridge University Press and Assessment, offers internationally recognized exams to schools in over 160 countries. In Pakistan, O Levels (grades 9-10) and A and AS Levels (grades 11-12) provide pathways to higher education both locally and internationally.

A press release indicated that while approximately 368,000 AS & A Level students worldwide received their results, over 315,000 Pakistan students appeared for the Cambridge IGCSE and O Level exams and will receive their results on August 18.

The June 2026 exam series saw participation from over 100,000 students at more than 850 schools across Pakistan. The most popular subjects were Physics, Mathematics, Business, Chemistry, and Computer Science. The June series in Pakistan and other regions faced a setback due to the leak of the AS/A Level Mathematics Paper 12 on April 29, which was subsequently cancelled and rescheduled for June 9.

Uzma Yousuf, the country director for International Education at Cambridge, congratulated the learners for their achievements, emphasizing the significance of their accomplishments given the regional tensions and disruptions many faced. She thanked teachers, parents, and school communities for their support.

Cambridge highlighted the importance of education beyond examination results, focusing on building knowledge, confidence, and skills for university, careers, and life. CIE expressed commitment to innovation in assessments, including its digital exams pilot and modular assessment options at A Level, to enhance inclusivity and flexibility for students. The rising entries for Cambridge International AS & A Levels by 5% compared to last year underscore the global demand for qualifications that lead to higher education.

Rod Smith, the group managing director for International Education at Cambridge, noted the growing popularity of AS & A Levels due to their deep subject knowledge and transferable skills valued by universities and employers. He observed that the continued growth of AS & A Levels reflects their relevance in an increasingly AI-driven world.

Smith expressed confidence in the continued importance of Cambridge International qualifications, noting that 98% of A Level students who applied to UK universities in the 2025 cycle received at least one offer of a place. The standing of AS & A Levels as a route to higher education was further evidenced by new UCAS application data.

Despite school closures in parts of the Middle East due to regional conflict, which prevented almost 30,000 Cambridge students from taking their exams, schools collaborated closely to support their students.
